Grade II Listed Sussex Mill House Garden

Grade II Listed Sussex Mill House Garden

Grade II Listed Sussex Mill House Garden

This historic mill, near Uckfield in East Sussex, is a listed property once owned by “Gone With The Wind” star Vivien Leigh.

The brief was to focus on the landscaping immediately surrounding the house bounded by the lake, driveway, woods and fields.  Here, four distinct garden areas; to the north, south, east and west of the property, would be created.  These would provide a more fitting entrance to the house, reduce the visual impact of parking, refurbish the original water garden, return the lakeside closer to its historic layout and create a new formal garden with lawn to the east.  To support these changes a Heritage Statement was submitted to the Local Authority and work was overseen by the County Archaeologist.

On completion, our clients made the following comments: “Having initially employed the team at Esse landscapes to refurbish the water garden, we were very impressed with their knowledge, hard work and attention to detail.  I therefore had no hesitation in awarding them the contract for the remainder of the works.  At every stage they have proved themselves professional, approachable and determined to provide us with the garden we dreamed of.  As we now relax and enjoy the grounds, we are continually delighted by what has been achieved here.”
